This is article is about the status of librarians at academic institutions. There are several arguments to be made on both sides concerning librarians and tenure. On one hand, I can understand that some librarians really value their research and desire the earned status that tenure provides. Conversely, I have been employed at an institution that offered tenure to faculty(not librarians) and witnessed the pedagogical stagnation that can result. It’s a tough call. As it looks today, I won’t be relying tenure for job security. I’ll be relying on my research, instructional, and technology design skills to stay relevant to the job market.
